Learn where the centre list appears, how allotment works, which venue is final and what to do if your selected centre and hall-ticket centre do not match.
Current status (21 October 2026): IGNOU has published the revised tentative date sheet for the December 2026 TEE, with papers scheduled from 25 November 2026 to 14 January 2027. The examination-form window has run, with an official extension notice. Hall tickets have not been released yet. There is still no single national exam-centre list: your centre is confirmed only on your official hall ticket.
An exam centre can look like a small detail while you are filling the form, but it becomes one of the most important details on the morning of your paper. A student may remember the college selected in the form, arrange travel around it and later discover that the hall ticket shows another address. That does not automatically mean the hall ticket is wrong.
This guide explains how the IGNOU Exam Centre List December 2026 is expected to work, where to check the centre code and how to respond if the venue changes. It also separates confirmed rules from outdated change-centre information still circulating online.
Is the IGNOU December 2026 Exam Centre List Released?
As of 21 October 2026, there is no separate national exam-centre allotment list for the December 2026 TEE on the official IGNOU announcements page. What IGNOU has published is listed below.
| Update | Status on 21 October 2026 |
|---|---|
| Date sheet | Revised tentative date sheet dated 5 October 2026: exams from 25 November 2026 to 14 January 2027. |
| Exam form | IGNOU issued an extension notice for the December 2026 exam form. Media reports state the final late-fee window closed on 15 October 2026; check the exam portal for any further notice. |
| Assignments | Last date for December 2026 TEE assignments extended up to 31 October 2026 (official notice). |
| Project / practical fee | Last date for project, internship and practical course fee: 30 November 2026 (official notice). |
| Hall ticket | Not released yet. The date sheet says hall tickets of eligible students will be available on the University website soon. |
| Exam centre | Confirmed only on your hall ticket. The date sheet warns that a last-minute change of examination centre is possible. |
A date sheet and an exam-centre allotment are two different things.
The date sheet tells you the proposed date and session for a course code. The examination form allows you to select an available centre. The hall ticket later confirms the centre at which you are expected to report. Therefore, students should not wait for a single national PDF containing every learner’s final allotment.
The date sheet is still tentative. IGNOU can revise paper dates, sessions and centres before the TEE. Recheck the latest official date sheet and your hall ticket before every paper, and do not rely on last year’s schedule.
How IGNOU Exam Centre Allotment Works
When the exam form is active, the portal shows the exam-centre options available for the selected Regional Centre. You choose a preferred centre code while completing the form, but availability matters. Recent official exam-form instructions say that allotment works on a first-come, first-served basis. If the chosen centre reaches its seating capacity, the student may need to select the nearest available alternative.
This is why submitting the form early matters. Waiting until the final days can reduce the number of centres visible in the portal. It is also sensible to add all eligible course codes in one attempt. IGNOU has warned that adding courses through another attempt can lead to non-availability of capacity at the same centre or a change in centre.
Simple rule: the option selected during the form is your preference; the venue printed on the official hall ticket is the instruction you should follow on exam day.
Selection, allotment and confirmation are not the same
| Stage | What it means for the student |
|---|---|
| Centre list | Available centre codes shown through the official exam-form process or an official notice. |
| Your selection | The centre you choose while completing the form, subject to capacity and university rules. |
| Form acknowledgement | Your saved record of the submitted courses, transaction and selected details. |
| Hall ticket | The document that provides the venue, centre code, address, paper date and reporting details to follow. |
How to Check Your IGNOU Exam Centre
- Use only the official exam portal. Sign in through the official IGNOU/Samarth route to view your submitted form and the centre you selected.
- Select the Regional Centre and exam-centre code carefully. Check the city and centre name before moving to the payment stage.
- Review the form summary. Confirm your programme, course codes, centre selection and other details before final submission.
- Save the acknowledgement. Download or print the submitted form and payment/control details for reference.
- Download the hall ticket when released. With papers tentatively starting on 25 November 2026, watch the official website from mid-November. IGNOU’s hall-ticket notice will give the exact release date.
- Read the complete hall-ticket venue. Note the centre name, code, address, exam date and session instead of relying only on the centre you remember choosing.
- Recheck official notices. IGNOU can shift examinees from a centre for administrative reasons, so look for a fresh notice before travelling.

What Does the IGNOU Exam Centre Code Mean?
The exam-centre code is the identifier attached to a particular examination venue. It helps IGNOU distinguish centres with similar institution names and organise examination records. The code may appear beside the centre name and address in the form or hall ticket.
Do not confuse an exam centre with your Study Centre. Your Study Centre supports counselling, assignments and other academic services, while the examination centre is the venue allotted for the TEE. Sometimes the same institution may perform both roles, but students should never assume that their regular Study Centre will automatically be their exam venue.
Need your Study Centre or Regional Centre contact instead? Use our IGNOU Study Centre Finder to search any Regional Centre by city or state and get its official address, phone number and email.
When planning travel or reporting a genuine discrepancy, keep these details together:
- enrolment number and programme code;
- course code, examination date and session;
- centre code shown on the hall ticket;
- full centre name and address;
- exam-form acknowledgement or control details.
Can You Change the IGNOU Exam Centre?
The safe answer is no. Recent official examination-form instructions state that a request for a change of exam centre will not be entertained. Students should choose carefully while the form is open and make their travel plan around the venue ultimately printed on the hall ticket.
Some search results still lead to exam-centre change links issued for the June or December 2021 TEE. Those were session-specific notices and do not establish a change facility for December 2026. The December 2026 date sheet does mention that a last-minute change of examination centre is possible, but that refers to changes made by IGNOU, not a student request facility. Unless IGNOU or your Regional Centre publishes a fresh December 2026 notice, do not trust a page claiming that you can submit an online change form, pay an agent or secure a guaranteed transfer.
Important correction: emailing or visiting a Regional Centre does not create a guaranteed exception to the official no-change rule. Contact the University when you suspect a data error, missing information or an official centre closure—not because an unofficial website promises that a request will be approved.
What if there is an obvious error?
If the centre line is blank, the address is incomplete, the hall ticket conflicts with a new official shifting notice or the venue appears unusable, take screenshots and contact the appropriate IGNOU office promptly. Use the official Regional Centre directory or our IGNOU regional centre contact number finder instead of contact details copied from an old blog or social-media post.
Suggested subject: Clarification required for December 2026 TEE exam centre — [Enrolment Number]
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am appearing in the December 2026 TEE. My hall ticket shows the following exam-centre information: [centre code, centre name and address]. I need clarification because [describe the exact discrepancy in one sentence].
Enrolment number: [number]
Programme code: [code]
Course code/date/session: [details]
Exam-form reference: [control/reference number]
I have attached the relevant hall-ticket/form screenshot. Please confirm which official venue I should follow.
Keep the message factual. Do not send Aadhaar, passwords, card details or unnecessary personal documents. If you need a central examination contact, use IGNOU’s official Contact Us page to find the current Student Evaluation Division details.
What If the Hall Ticket Shows a Different Centre?
First, compare the centre code and full address on both documents. If the hall ticket shows another valid centre, the usual explanation is capacity or administrative reallocation. IGNOU has issued centre-shifting notices in previous examination cycles, including for the June 2026 TEE, and the December 2026 date sheet itself warns of possible last-minute centre changes. If that happens, the date sheet advises affected students to stay in touch with their Regional Centre.
Unless a newer official notice says otherwise, prepare to report to the centre printed on the hall ticket. Do not go to the originally selected institution simply because it appears on your saved form. If anything looks genuinely inconsistent, seek written clarification before the paper rather than arguing at the gate on exam day.
If the allotted centre is far from home
Distance alone generally does not override the no-change rule. Once the hall ticket is available, search the exact institution name and address, check the route from your home and identify the correct gate or building. If the journey is unfamiliar, visit the area in advance or keep extra travel time.
- save the address and a map screenshot for poor-network areas;
- confirm the morning/evening session written on the hall ticket;
- keep the printed hall ticket and valid IGNOU identity card ready;
- avoid relying on a WhatsApp location unless it matches the official address;
- check for a last-minute official shifting notice before leaving.
Theory Exam Centre vs Practical Exam Venue
Theory TEE and practical/lab examinations should not be treated as the same arrangement. IGNOU’s examination instructions have advised learners in practical or lab courses to contact their Regional Centre for the venue and schedule where applicable. A practical timetable or venue may be communicated separately for programmes such as BCA, MCA, BLIS and other courses with practical components.
The December 2026 date sheet repeats this for PGDLAN, BLIS and MLIS practicals: students must contact their Regional Centre for the exact date and venue. Therefore, do not assume that the theory centre printed for written papers will automatically host every practical, viva, workshop or project-related activity.
If you do not know your Regional Centre’s phone number or email, find it in seconds with the IGNOU Study Centre Finder, then confirm the practical schedule directly with that office.
How to Avoid Common Exam-Centre Problems
| Common mistake | Safer action |
|---|---|
| Waiting until the last date | Submit early because centre capacity is limited and availability can change. |
| Using an old centre PDF | Check the centre options and notices for the December 2026 cycle only. |
| Assuming Study Centre = exam centre | Follow the centre code and address on the official hall ticket. |
| Using the saved form on exam day | Carry the current hall ticket and IGNOU identity card. |
| Trusting a paid change promise | Follow only a fresh notice published by IGNOU or your official Regional Centre. |
| Ignoring practical notices | Check the separate practical schedule and venue for your programme. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the IGNOU Exam Centre List December 2026 released?
There is no single national exam-centre list. As of 21 October 2026, IGNOU has released the tentative date sheet (25 November 2026 to 14 January 2027), but hall tickets are not out yet. Your confirmed exam centre will be printed on your official hall ticket.
Where can I check my allotted IGNOU exam centre?
Check the centre selected in your saved exam form for reference. Your confirmed centre code, institution and address should be checked on the official hall ticket before the examination.
Can IGNOU allot a different centre from the one I selected?
Yes. Centre availability and administrative requirements can affect allotment. Follow the official venue shown on the latest hall ticket or a newer official shifting notice.
Can I change my IGNOU exam centre after submitting the form?
Under recent official exam-form instructions, requests to change the examination centre are not entertained. Do not rely on an old or unofficial change-centre link unless IGNOU or your Regional Centre issues a fresh notice for December 2026.
What is the IGNOU exam centre code?
It is the identifier used for a particular examination venue. Keep the code, centre name and full address together when planning travel or requesting clarification.
Is my IGNOU Study Centre automatically my exam centre?
No. A Study Centre and an examination centre serve different purposes. They may sometimes be the same institution, but only the hall ticket confirms where you must report for the TEE.
Will all theory papers normally use one exam centre?
Recent official instructions state that all examinations are to be taken at one exam centre. Still, check every hall-ticket entry and any later official shifting notice before each paper.
Is the practical exam held at the same centre as the theory exam?
Not necessarily. Practical and lab venues may be announced separately by the relevant Regional Centre. Follow the programme-specific practical schedule instead of assuming the theory venue applies.
Final Advice
Choose your centre carefully, submit the examination form early and keep the acknowledgement. When the hall ticket is issued, read the centre code and complete address again—even if you are confident that you remember the selected venue. The few minutes spent checking can prevent a missed paper.
The most important rule is simple: rely on current IGNOU documents, not old change-centre links, agent promises or forwarded lists. If an actual discrepancy appears, collect the relevant screenshots and ask the official Regional Centre or Student Evaluation Division for clarification before the examination date.
Source note: Last updated on 21 October 2026. This independent student guide was rechecked against IGNOU’s official announcements page, the revised tentative date sheet for the December 2026 TEE (dated 5 October 2026), examination-form and assignment extension notices, and the Regional Centre directory. The final exam-form deadline of 15 October 2026 is based on media reports, as the official extension notice did not state the new date on the announcements page. OpenStudyInfo is not affiliated with IGNOU; official IGNOU notices and your hall ticket remain final.
