How to resize a passport-size photo

  1. Check the application portal’s required width, height, format and file-size limit.
  2. Choose a clear JPEG, PNG or WebP photo from your device.
  3. Select a preset or enter the exact custom pixel dimensions.
  4. Use Fill and crop for an edge-to-edge image, then adjust zoom and position.
  5. Select JPEG, PNG or WebP and set quality. Add a maximum KB target only when required.
  6. Review the preview, download the file and open it once before uploading.
35 × 45 mm preset: 413 × 531 pixels is a rounded reference conversion at 300 pixels per inch. A digital file’s physical print size also depends on how it is placed or printed. Follow the receiving authority’s stated pixel and print requirements.

What this tool does—and does not do

The resizer draws your image on a browser canvas at the selected pixel dimensions. Fill mode scales the image until the frame is covered and crops the overflow. Fit mode keeps the whole image visible and adds white space where the aspect ratios differ.

For JPEG and WebP, quality controls compression. If you enter a maximum KB value, the tool tries lower quality levels without changing the selected dimensions. Very small targets may be impossible without reducing width and height. PNG compression does not use the same adjustable quality system, so the optional KB target is ignored for PNG.

This tool does not remove or replace a background, improve facial lighting, change clothing, verify head size, detect biometric compliance, or guarantee acceptance. Passport, visa, admission and examination portals can have different rules. The official instructions for the exact form remain final.

Photo checks before uploading

  • Use a recent, sharp image with the face clearly visible.
  • Confirm the permitted background, head position and expression.
  • Match the required pixel dimensions and file type exactly.
  • Check that compression has not made facial details blurry or blocky.
  • Open the downloaded file and confirm its orientation.
  • Keep the original photo separately; resizing cannot restore removed detail.

Frequently asked questions

Is 35 × 45 mm always the correct passport photo size?

No. Requirements vary by country, document and online portal. The preset is a convenient reference; verify the exact official instructions.

Can I resize to custom pixel dimensions?

Yes. Choose Custom pixels and enter a width and height from 50 to 2,000 pixels.

Can this tool make my image exactly 100 KB?

It can try to keep JPEG or WebP output under a selected maximum. The exact result depends on image detail and dimensions, so very small targets are not guaranteed.

Does it remove or change the background?

No. Fit mode can add white space around the photo, but the tool does not remove or replace the background behind a person.

Is my photo uploaded or stored?

No. The selected photo is processed inside your browser and is not uploaded to or stored by OpenStudyInfo.

Independent utility by OpenStudyInfo. Acceptance decisions belong to the authority receiving the photograph.
