You are not alone. I write about university things. Help students and the number one problem I hear is about IGNOUs digital infrastructure. Unlike colleges IGNOU has many different portals for different things. You have one portal for admission, another one for books and another one for grades. It can be very confusing.
That is why I decided to write this guide about IGNOU Login Portals. Today I will tell you about the three important platforms you will use: the Samarth Portal, eGyankosh and the SED portal. By the end of this you will know how to use these websites like a pro. You will save yourself a lot of time and stress.
Why does IGNOU have many portals?
IGNOU is a big university with over 3 million students. If they put everything on one server the website would crash every day. To manage this IGNOU has separate services. They have the Samarth ERP for student data eGyankosh for study materials and the SED division for marks and assignments. Let us look at each one.
1. The IGNOU Samarth Portal
This is like your college campus. Once you are admitted this is where your student profile lives. You can do things here like download your IGNOU Student ID Card apply for re-registration, update your personal details, change your study center and download fee receipts.
How to log in to IGNOU Samarth:
Do not try to log in with the username and password you made during admission it will not work.
Step 1: Go to the IGNOU Samarth website.
Step 2: Click on the ‘New Registration’ button.
Step 3: Select your program, enter your 10-digit Enrollment Number and type in your name.
Step 4: Verify the OTP you get on your phone and email.
Step 5: Create a password and you are done.
2. EGyankosh
This is a digital library with all the study materials for IGNOU courses. You can download PDF textbooks, study blocks and video lectures. The best part is, you do not need a login ID or password to access the materials.
How to use eGyankosh:
Step 1: Open the eGyankosh website.
Step 2: Use the search bar to find your course materials.
Step 3: Search using your Course Code, not the subject name.
Step 4: Click on the block you want to study.
Step 5: Click on the ‘View/Open’ button to download the PDF.
3. IGNOU SED Portal
This is where you check your marks and assignments. You can see your assignment submission status, term-end exam results and grade card. You do not need a password, your Enrollment Number and Program Code.

Check your assignment status, term-end exam results and grade card. You can also apply for re-evaluation if you think you were marked unfairly.
