CGPA to Percentage Converter

Convert CGPA to an estimated percentage using your institution’s multiplier, a proportional scale, or a custom offset formula.

Calculate your percentage

There is no universal CGPA conversion rule. Select only the method stated by your university, board or official document.

Check your institution’s official rule before choosing.
9.5 is a common example, not a universal rule.

No login required. Values are calculated inside your browser and are not sent to OpenStudyInfo.

How to convert CGPA to percentage

  1. Enter the CGPA shown on your grade card or transcript.
  2. Select its maximum scale, such as 10, 5 or 4.
  3. Choose the exact conversion method published by your institution.
  4. If the rule uses a multiplier or offset, enter those official values.
  5. Select Convert CGPA and review the formula shown with the result.

The mathematical calculation may be simple, but choosing the correct formula matters. A 10-point CGPA of 8.0 becomes 76% when multiplied by 9.5, while a proportional conversion gives 80%. Both calculations can be mathematically correct and still serve different academic systems.

Which conversion method should you choose?

Official multiplier

Use this when an official notice says percentage equals CGPA multiplied by a fixed number. The default 9.5 is only an editable example. Do not assume it applies to every university, programme or admission process.

Proportional scale

This method calculates CGPA ÷ maximum scale × 100. It describes the CGPA as a proportion of its scale, but an institution may use another academic formula.

Offset formula

Some conversion rules subtract a stated value before multiplying. Select the custom offset option only when your institution publishes a formula in that form.

Important: An estimated percentage is not an official certificate. For admissions, jobs, scholarships or document verification, submit the conversion rule or certificate accepted by the receiving authority.

Examples and common mistakes

For a CGPA of 8.2 on a 10-point scale, a 9.5 multiplier produces 77.90%. A proportional calculation produces 82.00%. If an official formula says (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, the same CGPA produces 74.50%.

  • Do not mix SGPA for one semester with cumulative CGPA.
  • Do not select a 10-point scale for a transcript using 4 or 5 points.
  • Do not treat a popular internet formula as your institution’s rule.
  • Keep full precision during calculation and round only the final answer.
  • Do not infer division, class, eligibility or admission merit from this estimate alone.

CGPA and SGPA: what is the difference?

If you only have semester-wise grade points, calculate the SGPA first. Do not enter SGPA in a CGPA converter unless your institution specifically tells you to do so.

University-specific conversion rules

Some institutions use a fixed multiplier, while others use a proportional method, an offset formula or a conversion certificate. The same CGPA can therefore produce different percentages under different academic rules.

When should you use the estimated percentage?

This converter is useful for a quick academic estimate, comparing results and understanding a grade card. Do not use an estimated figure as a replacement for an official conversion certificate in admissions, government forms, jobs, scholarships, migration, transcripts or eligibility verification.

Quick troubleshooting

  • Enter a valid CGPA within the selected maximum scale.
  • Check that you selected 4, 5, 10 or the correct custom scale.
  • If the result differs from your mark sheet, your institution may use another formula.
  • Refresh the page if the calculator does not display correctly on mobile.

Author’s note: Use this tool to cross-check an approximate percentage, but confirm the university-specific rule before entering the figure anywhere official.

Frequently asked questions

Is CGPA multiplied by 9.5 for every university?

No. The 9.5 multiplier is used in some contexts, but it is not a universal conversion rule. Use the formula published for your institution and purpose.

What is the proportional CGPA formula?

Percentage equals CGPA divided by the maximum CGPA scale, multiplied by 100. Use it only when a proportional conversion is appropriate.

Can I convert a 4-point or 5-point CGPA?

Yes. Select the matching scale and use the conversion method required by your institution.

Does the result prove my official percentage?

No. It is a mathematical estimate based on your inputs. Your university’s transcript, conversion certificate and applicable rules remain authoritative.

Does this tool store my CGPA?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and OpenStudyInfo does not receive or store the value entered here.

OpenStudyInfo is an independent educational information website. Confirm academic conversion rules with the relevant institution.
